The three-year BA programme in archaeology begins with foundational courses in historical knowledge and introductory methodologies. Starting in the second year, students specialize by selecting one major and one minor from four areas: Roman and Late Antique Archaeology, Archaeology of Medieval Europe, Archaeology of the Medieval Middle East, or Archaeology of Hungarian Prehistory and the Age of Conquest. Graduates earn the qualification of archaeological technician.
The two-year MA programme offers advanced study in two chosen archaeological periods, culminating in a degree in archaeology. Students aspiring to further academic research can enroll in a four-year PhD programme in Archaeology, supported by public scholarships.
The curriculum incorporates modern computing and technical skills, and students participate in university-led field research, both domestically and internationally. These experiences not only enhance their practical expertise but also help build professional networks. Many students use data gathered during these explorations for their theses, dissertations, and academic publications.
Language training relevant to the selected specialisation is integrated into the programme, supported by exchange and scholarship agreements with international universities. Research outcomes are shared through the institute's publication series, which has produced over thirty monographs in Hungarian and foreign languages.
